Keep your entryway dry with this umbrella holder made from an old chair

Sick of having a soaked entryway every time you come in from the rain? Corral your raincoat and umbrella with a holder made with an old chair, so you never have to worry about your umbrella bucket falling and spilling wet things all over the floor. Stick the holder right inside your front door so you can dump your belongings with ease and remember to grab them before you leave.
This umbrella holder is a clever way to repurpose an old chair that you’d otherwise kick to the curb. The blue paint and antiquing wax give it a simple, rustic charm, but you can easily customize it to match the decor in your home. Bright colors in a geometric design would fit in a quirky, mid-century modern space; clean ivory would mesh well with a more classic interior. Use wall hooks and an umbrella bucket that complement the paint you’ve chosen.

Instructions
1. Center the bottom of the bucket on the seat of the chair. Trace the bottom onto the chair. Turn the bucket over and position the top over the tracing you just made. Trace the top of the bucket onto the chair.
2. Draw a shape that is the average of the two shapes you traced in the first step. This is the line you’ll cut.
3. With a large drill bit or spade, drill a hole just inside the line you drew in step 2. The drill hole should be big enough for the jigsaw blade to fit into, with some wiggle room.
4. Insert the jigsaw blade into the hole. Cut out the shape you drew in step 2. Sand the edges with a sanding block.
5. Paint the chair with chalk paint,. Allow the paint to dry.
6. With a fine-grit sanding block, lightly sand the edges and surfaces of the chair to give it a distressed look. Use a clean, dry paintbrush to dust off the chair.
7. Paint on the antique wax, using a rag or paper towel to remove the excess wax as you go. Allow the wax to dry.
8. Position the wall hook on the side of the chair. With a small drill bit, drill guide holes through the hook and into the chair. With a Phillips-head bit, drill screws through the guide holes, and secure the hook to the chair.
9. Your new umbrella holder is complete! Place your umbrella in the bucket, and hang your raincoat on the hook.
