Instructions
1. Place the ceiling fan blade on your work surface. If you haven’t already done so, remove the bracket. There should be three holes in the narrowest part of the blade where the bracket used to be.
2. Lightly sand both sides of a ceiling fan blade. Wipe the dust off with a rag or paper towel.
3. Position a wall sconce on the widest part of the blade with the cord pointed down. Use an awl to mark where the screw holes should go. Mark the same spots with a marker, and then drill guide holes through the markings with a drill bit that’s about the same diameter as your screws.
4. Paint both sides of the fan blade with chalk paint in “Maui Sand” or another shade of gray. Allow the paint to dry, and then paint a second coat.
5. Once dry, lightly sand the edges and face of the blade to give it a distressed style. Wipe off the dust with your rag or towel.
6. Screw the screws through the back of the blade and into the holes you made in step 3. Turn the blade right-side up, then place the sconce over the screws. Secure in place by twisting on the screw covers.
7. Remove the gasket from the light bulb socket. Slide the ceiling fan shade onto the socket, then screw the gasket back on. Screw in the light bulb.
8. Cut a long piece of twine. Thread one end through the back of the topmost hole on the blade, then through the bottom left hole. Bring the end of the twine through the back of the hole of the right, then through the topmost hole. Adjust the twine so that both ends are of equal length. Tie an overhand loop knot with the ends of the twine, and then trim with scissors.
