Save a handkerchief & reproduce this project

There's no better pastime than curling up with a good book, especially on a rainy day. But what happens when you need to walk away for a moment and can't find where you left off? Remembering the page you're on is too easy to forget, and if you love and cherish your books, you won't want to just turn down the corner of the page, leaving a crease.
Luckily, there's a DIY project that's ideal for the book lovers of the world. This project allows you to create gorgeous bookmarks for your own use, as well as to gift to the other members of your book club, should you choose. All you need is an old handkerchief and a few minutes to walk away from that riveting chapter you're on.

Instructions
1. Lay your handkerchief on a flat working surface.
2. Take the bookmark stencil, and place it on the handkerchief. Trace around the outline — you'll need two pieces outlined. We chose to utilize the corners of the handkerchief.
3. Cut out two pieces of fabric.
4. Iron the fabric adhesive on the ironing board to one underside of the handkerchief.
5. Place the two pieces of fabric together with undersides both facing up, and pin them together along the edges.
6. Sew along the pinned edges, leaving just enough space open where you can then turn the fabric right-side out. Before turning it, cut off any excess fabric along the edges.
7. Fold over the open edge, and pin it.
8. Sew the open edge closed along where you pinned it.
9. With your thread, create a knot of fringed fabric.
10. With your needle, take a strand of thread and sew through the top of the bookmark, and then loop through the knotted fringed fabric and tie.
