Keep lace doilies & try this decor

Born in the Middle Ages, the table runner has a surprisingly long history. By the 15th century, anyone who was anyone had a table runner to protect the tablecloth underneath. Today, table runners are mostly used as decorative additions to a tablescape or as another piece of home decor collections.

For a bohemian and eclectic touch, create this charming table runner with a few doilies and some yarn. This project can be completed in an afternoon. Its beauty lies in the ability to make the table table runner as large or small and complicated or simple as you like. For a unique look, use a few colors of yarn to connect the doilies. For a more minimalist runner, skip the yarn entirely.

- Lace doilies
- Needles and thread
- Yarn
- Yarn or tapestry needle
- Thread snippers or scissors

1. Laying out the doilies next to each other in the pattern you want for the table runner. Incorporating doilies of different sizes will provide more texture and visual interest.

2. Thread the needle and tie a knot at one end of the thread.

3. Use a whip stitch to attach the doilies where the circles meet. Sew three or four stitches to keep the doilies together, and cut the thread.

4. Repeat step 3 until you've sewn all of the doilies together.

5. Thread the tapestry needle with a short length of yarn.

6. Pull the yarn through some of the empty spaces where the doilies meet, and don't make the stitches tight.

7. Continue adding stitches with yarn, including different colors if you like. Overlap some of the colors for an eclectic look.
