Purchase leftover fabric at the store & mimic this dingy chic idea

Aromatherapy has long been used as a holistic treatment for everything from physical ailments to improving emotional and mental health. Scent is a powerful thing and can have a huge effect on day-to-day lives. Many varieties of scents are used as aromatherapy, and one of the most beloved is lavender. It seems to be in everything — shampoos, lotions, baby oil, candles and many others. An easy way to introduce aromatherapy into your home is with a scented sachet.
With a couple of pieces of scrap fabric and dried lavender, you can create a hangable sachet that will bring fragrance to a sock drawer, a nightstand or a space in your home where you want to replace a scented candle. You can experiment with other scents to achieve the ambiance you seek. Make a set of these lovely sachets, and every room of your house will become a relaxing oasis from the chaotic outside world.

Instructions
1. Cut a piece of paper or cardboard into a rectangle 6 inches by 3 1/2 inches. Measure up 4 1/2 inches from the bottom edge on each side, and make a dot.
2. On the top edge, put a dot 3/4 inches from each corner. On each side, use the ruler to connect the dot from the side and the dot from the top edge, and cut off the corner triangles. (The pattern is shown in the first 15 seconds of the tutorial.)
3. Lay out the first piece of scrap fabric, folding it in half. Place the pattern on top of the fabric, and use fabric scissors to cut out two pieces in that shape.
4. Put a small piece of decorative fabric below the fabric cut from the pattern, and cut around the bottom until you have a small rectangle. Create a second piece for the other piece of fabric.
5. Position the decorative piece on the larger piece of fabric. Fold in the top edge about 1/4 inch, open it out, and pin just above the crease to keep it in place. The pins should not extend into the crease.
6. Sew along the pinned edge of the decorative fabric with the sewing machine. Once you've sewn on the decorative piece, fold it down, and sew along the top edge again.
7. With a needle and embroidery thread, stitch along the top edge of the decorative piece. Choose an embroidery stitch that is decorative, such as a whip stitch, ladder stitch or some type of chain.
8. Before cutting the embroidery thread, create some French knots on the decorative fabric.
9. Repeat steps 5 to 8 for the second pattern piece of fabric.
10. Place both pieces of the sachet together with the patterned sides facing each other.
11. Pin them together with straight pins, leaving an opening about 1 1/2 to 2 inches wide in the middle of the bottom edge.
12. Sew along the pinned edges, except for the opening in the bottom edge.
13. After you sew around the edges, pull the piece right-side out through the hole in the bottom.
14. Create a hole at the top of the sachet with an awl.
15. Put the grommet in the hole, and use grommet setting pliers to close it tightly.
16. To fill the sachet, get the funnel or curl a piece of paper into a funnel and keep it closed with a piece or two of tape.
17. Place the tip of the funnel in the opening at the bottom of the sachet.
18. Spoon dried lavender into the funnel, and fill the sachet. Do not fill it to the brim, or sewing up the opening will be difficult.
19. Pin the sachet's opening closed with straight pins. Sew across the bottom edge with the sewing machine.
