Grab an old laundry basket and some landscape cloth & follow this DIY for the garden

Whether you want to grow your own herb garden, add some floral notes to your patio or create your own mini-garden, you will likely need a planter. Especially for the millions of us living in apartments, planters allow everyone to enjoy the satisfaction of growing something. However, traditional planters can often be heavy and pricey. If those two things are holding you back from starting your own secret garden, you need this tutorial.
Everyone has seen that basic white plastic laundry basket. It turns out that, with a little crafting magic, you can turn that boring laundry basket into a chic and manageable planter. You can still have the drainage you need with a cool design on the outside that doesn’t weigh your planter down, so you don’t have to worry about throwing out your back just to move your garden. Get the young ones in your life involved with this beginner-level craft and they’ll have a piece they can be proud of as they cultivate a life-long love of plant life.

Instructions

1. Start by laying weed barrier fabric or landscaping fabric in the bottom of your laundry basket. You should measure enough to cover half-way up the sides of your laundry basket and the bottom. You may need to cut each side piece and the bottom piece separately.

2. Staple the fabric in place with a staple gun. Most importantly, your pieces should cover any holes in the laundry basket.

6. If you decide to use additional colors of rope, stop your first color after a few inches and begin using the next color, following the same process.

8. When you get to the lip of the laundry basket, start wrapping that as well, using the same steps as you did with the body of the basket, but skip the handles.
