You’ve spent the time to put together the perfect updo. But something is still missing. There’s no better way to put the finishing touches on an updo like a cute hair accessory. There are tons of options, but rather than relying on the store’s supply of hair accessories, you can make your own with regular bobby pins and some decorative paper.
In this tutorial, we show you two ways to create your star-studded bobby pins. We used sparkly craft paper, but you can choose your favorite design to customize your bobby pins. You can also choose a different shape! The star punches we used are just one option. The local craft store will likely have many different styles and sizes of punches, so get creative and use these techniques to create a whole set of beautiful hairpins to go with any outfit.

Instructions
Version 1
Version 1
1. First, punch a few stars out of your decorative paper with a star punch. You can use different sizes of stars to create visual interest. We used three different sizes.
2. Lay down a drop cloth or protective layer. Place your bobby pins on the drop cloth and coat them in the spray paint of your choosing. We used Rust-Oleum Specialty Metallic Spray Paint.
TIP: Make sure you coat both sides of the bobby pin. This might require you to let the first side dry for a minute before you flip it over.
3. Once the spray paint is dry, decide how you want to arrange the stars you punched on the bobby pin. When you’re ready, apply a small dot of super glue to the bobby pin and press the first star into it.
4. For any additional stars, you want to add, again use a small dot of glue on the bobby pin and press them into it.
Version 2
1. For this project, start by punching a few stars out of your decorative paper, keeping them all the same size.
2. Set out your bobby pin and your stars. At the closed end of the bobby pin, apply a small dot of glue and press the first star into it.
3. Repeat step 2 for the remaining stars. Make sure the glue has completely set and dried before wearing your bobby pin.
