Materials Needed:
Green cardstock paper
Pencil
Scissors
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Tiny Christmas bows in various colors
Craft paper or poster board for the background (optional)
Markers or stickers for additional decoration (optional)
Instructions:
Prepare the Materials: Gather all the necessary materials to get started. Lay out a craft paper or poster board as the background if you prefer a more structured look for your tree.
Trace and Cut: Begin by tracing the hands of each family member on the green cardstock paper. You can use a pencil to lightly trace around each hand or assist your children in tracing their own hands. Make sure to have one handprint for each family member.
Cut Out Handprints: Once all the handprints are traced, carefully cut them out. Take your time to create clean and neat handprint cutouts.
Arrange by Size: Line up the handprints from largest to smallest or vice versa. This step provides an opportunity to teach your little ones about comparing and ordering sizes.
Glue Handprints: Use a hot glue gun to attach the handprints to your craft paper or poster board in the shape of a Christmas tree. Start with the largest handprints at the bottom and work your way up to the smallest at the top.
You can also ruffle the paper a bit to create more of a 3D effect if that's desired. This craft can definitely be done as a flat 2D design as well.
Decorate with Bows: Attach tiny Christmas bows to the fingers and edges of the handprints using hot glue. You can choose different colors and styles to make your tree more festive.
Add Details: If desired, you can use markers or stickers to add ornaments, tinsel, or a star at the top of your handprint tree.
