The full and empty squares stitch creates a lovely lattice effect which is really effective for scarves and also makes a gorgeous blanket.
The stitch has a complex and airy look, but in fact is quite masculine, so it would work well in a chunky weight yarn as a husky throw.

Materials
This stitch looks really effective in a fluffy or sparkly yarn, but could be equally effective for a man's scarf or a snuggly throw in a super-chunky weight yarn. Check your manufacturer's band for hook size suggestions. You'll also need a pair of scissors and a tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

Written pattern
This stitch is created in multiples of 6 plus 3, so start off by creating a foundation chain large enough for your project. If liked, you can then single crochet along the row before starting the stitch pattern - just start sc into the second st from the hook.
Row 1: ch 4, then tr into 6th ch from hook. Tr into next ch. Now *ch 3, sk 3 ch and tr into 4th ch. Tr into next 2 chs. Rep until end of row.
Row 2: ch 1, work 1 sc into the top of the 3 tr from previous row. *Ch 3, then sc into top of 3 tr from previous row. Rep until end of row.
Repeat these two rows until project reaches desired length.
