VHS Tape and Metallic Floss Crochet Evening Clutch
Materials
Empty VHS cassette tape (1)
Gold metallic embroidery floss (2 skeins)
Crochet hook (size H/8 or 5 mm)
Scissors
Tapestry needle
Magnetic snap closure (1 set)
Fabric lining (optional, 1/4 yard)
Hot glue gun (optional, for lining)
Directions
Unspool the VHS cassette tape completely and cut into manageable lengths (about 10 feet each).
Combine a strand of VHS tape with a strand of gold metallic embroidery floss to create your yarn.
Make a slip knot with the combined yarn and start with a chain of 26 stitches.
For the base, crochet a row of single crochet (sc) in each chain stitch across. Turn your work.
Continue to crochet in single crochet for 40 rows to form the body of the clutch.
Fold your rectangle in half lengthwise and use a slip stitch to seam the sides, leaving the top open.
Attach the magnetic snap closure to the inside of the clutch where the flap will fold over.
If using fabric lining, cut the fabric to fit the interior, fold the edges under, and secure with a hot glue gun or sew it in place.
Weave in any excess tape or floss using a tapestry needle and trim any loose ends.
Variations & Tips
For a different look, try using silver metallic floss instead of gold for a cooler tone. You can also experiment with different crochet patterns like half-double crochet for a denser texture. Adding a small chain or wrist strap to the clutch provides added functionality. Consider lining the interior with a brightly colored fabric to add a pop of color when you open the clutch.
