DIY Wooden Doormat

Materials
Cedar slats (1x2 inches, cut to desired length)
Sturdy nylon rope
Drill with a wood drill bit
Measuring tape
Saw (if cutting slats to size)
Sandpaper (medium grit)
Wood finish or sealant (optional)
Directions
Measure and cut the cedar slats to your desired length for the doormat. Typically, a length of 24 inches works well.
Sand the edges and surfaces of the slats to remove any splinters and ensure a smooth finish.
Using the drill, make two holes at each end of the slats. The holes should be large enough for the nylon rope to pass through.
Cut two lengths of nylon rope, each approximately 5 feet long. This will give you enough rope to thread through the slats and tie knots.
Thread one piece of rope through the holes on one side of the slats, and the other piece through the holes on the opposite side.
Space the slats evenly along the ropes. A gap of about 1 inch between each slat works well for most designs.
Once all slats are threaded and spaced as desired, tie a secure knot at each end of the ropes to keep the slats in place.
Optionally, apply a wood finish or sealant to protect the cedar from weathering and enhance its natural color.

Variations & Tips
For variations, consider using different types of wood, such as teak or oak, for a different aesthetic and durability. You could also experiment with colored ropes to add a pop of color that matches your home's exterior. Another option is to adjust the spacing between the slats to create a more open or compact design, depending on your preference. If you prefer a more polished look, apply a stain to the wood before threading it onto the rope.
