Upcycling has taken the creative world by storm, turning everyday items into stunning home decor pieces. This DIY project transforms a simple clear glass jar into a textured stone vase using recycled grey cardboard egg cartons. It's an eco-friendly way to add a touch of rustic elegance to any space, and the process is as satisfying as the finished product.
This textured stone vase pairs beautifully with a minimalist or rustic interior design. Place it on a wooden coffee table or a mantelpiece to complement natural elements like wood and stone. Enhance its aesthetic by filling it with dried flowers or pampas grass for a bohemian touch.
DIY Textured Stone Vase

Materials
Clear glass jar (any size)
Grey cardboard egg cartons (2-3 cartons)
White glue or Mod Podge
Paintbrush
Scissors
Spray paint (stone effect or matte finish)
Sealer (optional)
Directions
Start by cleaning the glass jar thoroughly, removing any labels and ensuring it's completely dry.
Tear the egg cartons into small, irregular pieces. The rougher the texture, the better the stone effect.
Apply a generous amount of white glue or Mod Podge onto a section of the glass jar using the paintbrush.
Press the torn egg carton pieces onto the glued area, overlapping slightly to create texture.
Continue this process around the entire jar, ensuring there are no gaps.
Allow the jar to dry completely, preferably overnight.
Once dry, take the jar outside or to a well-ventilated area and apply a coat of spray paint. A stone effect spray paint works best for an authentic look.
If desired, apply a sealer to protect the finish and add durability.
Let the vase dry completely before using it as a decorative piece.

Variations & Tips
For a pop of color, consider painting the egg carton pieces in pastel shades before applying them to the jar for a vibrant twist. Alternatively, use metallic spray paint for a modern, industrial look. To create a taller vase, stack multiple jars of the same diameter and follow the same process. Remember to handle the vase gently, as the egg carton texture can be delicate.
