Copper Penny Gazing Ball
Materials
1 discarded black bowling ball
300 shiny copper pennies
Strong outdoor adhesive suitable for metal and plastic
Clear outdoor sealant (optional)
Microfiber cloth (for cleaning)
Rubber gloves
Directions
Clean the bowling ball thoroughly with a microfiber cloth to ensure it is free of dust and grease.
Lay out your pennies and sort them by size and shine if desired, to make the gluing process easier.
Starting from the top center of the bowling ball, apply a small amount of adhesive to the back of a penny and press it firmly onto the ball.
Continue to glue pennies in a circular pattern, working your way outward and downward. Ensure each penny is securely attached and aligned closely to avoid gaps.
If you wish to add extra shine and protection, apply a clear outdoor sealant over the entire penny-covered surface once the adhesive is fully dry.
Allow the sealant to dry completely according to the product's instructions before placing the gazing ball in your garden.
Variations & Tips
For a different look, consider using a mix of new and aged pennies to create a more rustic, varied appearance. You can also experiment with different adhesive patterns, such as spirals or stripes, to create unique textures. If copper isn't your preferred choice, try using other materials like decorative stones, glass beads, or mosaic tiles. Additionally, you could paint the bowling ball a different base color before applying the pennies for an extra layer of customization.
