DIY Woven Basket Planter
Materials
Old plastic laundry basket (any size)
Brown paper grocery bags (enough to cover the basket)
Scissors
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Clear acrylic spray sealant (optional)
Directions
Start by cutting the brown paper grocery bags into strips approximately 2 inches wide. The length of the strips should match the height of your laundry basket.
Take a strip of paper and use the hot glue gun to secure one end at the bottom edge of the basket.
Begin weaving the strip through the holes of the laundry basket, alternating over and under the plastic slats.
Continue weaving until you reach the top of the basket, then glue the end of the strip in place. Repeat with additional strips until the entire basket is covered.
For a more polished look, consider weaving a second layer of strips horizontally to cover any visible plastic.
Once weaving is complete, set the basket outdoors or in a well-ventilated area and apply a clear acrylic spray sealant over the paper. This step is optional but will help protect the basket from moisture.
Allow the sealant to dry completely before using the basket as a planter.
Variations & Tips
For a different look, try using colored paper bags or paint the paper strips in subtle pastel colors before weaving them. You could also add a decorative ribbon or rope around the top edge for an extra touch of elegance. Consider varying the width of the paper strips for a textured pattern or using fabric strips for a softer look. If the basket is going to be used outdoors, opt for a waterproof sealant to ensure durability.
