Faux-Rattan Decorative Storage Baskets
Materials
Dozens of cheap brown plastic hair combs
Aluminum baking sheet
White spray paint
Hot glue gun
Scissors
Three small to medium cardboard boxes or storage containers
Directions
Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C).
Arrange the brown plastic hair combs flat on an aluminum baking sheet. Make sure they are not overlapping.
Place the baking sheet in the oven and bake for 5-10 minutes, or until the combs become flexible but not fully melted.
Carefully remove the baking sheet from the oven and, while wearing heat-resistant gloves, gently shape the combs around the cardboard boxes or containers. Allow them to cool and harden.
Once the combs have cooled and taken the shape of the container, use a hot glue gun to secure them in place, trimming any excess with scissors.
Apply a coat of white spray paint to achieve a uniform faux-rattan look. Allow the paint to dry completely.
Optional: Add handles or embellishments to the baskets for additional style.
Variations & Tips
To personalize your faux-rattan storage baskets, consider using different colors of spray paint to match your decor. For a more rustic look, use a light brown or beige instead of white. You can also experiment with different sizes and shapes of containers to create a variety of basket styles. Adding fabric liners or decorative trim can further customize your baskets and enhance their aesthetic appeal.
