Cut brown paper bags into strips and this transforms into something stunning

Transform your ordinary brown paper bags into a stunning vintage-style woven basket. This project not only recycles materials but also adds a touch of rustic charm to your home decor. Brown paper grocery bags (5-6 bags)

1. Begin by flattening the brown paper bags and smoothing out any wrinkles.

2. Using a ruler and pencil, mark and cut the bags into uniform strips, approximately 1 inch wide and as long as the bag allows.

3. Take 10 strips and lay them out parallel to each other on a flat surface, securing each end with clothespins to prevent movement.

4. Start weaving another strip horizontally over and under the laid-out strips, alternating the pattern with each new strip.

5. Continue weaving until you have a square or rectangle base of desired size.

6. For the sides, fold the ends of the vertical strips upwards and begin weaving new horizontal strips around the base, securing each layer with a dab of hot glue.

7. Use binder clips to hold the strips in place as the glue dries.

8. Continue adding horizontal strips until the basket reaches the desired height.

9. Tuck any excess paper strips inside the basket and secure with glue for a neat finish.

10. Allow the basket to dry completely before use.

For a more colorful basket, consider painting the paper strips before weaving them together. Use watercolors or diluted acrylic paints to maintain the paper's flexibility. Alternatively, you can mix in strips of fabric or colored paper for added texture and color contrast. For added durability, consider weaving a thin wire into the structure to help maintain the basket's shape over time.
