Transform your bathroom space with a unique and functional 5-item tiered shelf made from wooden cutting boards. This DIY project is perfect for anyone looking to add a rustic yet modern touch to their bathroom decor. The shelves offer ample storage for toiletries and decorative items, helping to declutter your space while adding a personalized touch.
Position the tiered shelf near the sink or a mirror for easy access to daily essentials. Pair it with potted plants or small succulents to add a pop of greenery. Choose cutting boards with a natural wood finish to complement neutral or earthy tones in your bathroom. The shelf works well in minimalist, rustic, or Scandinavian-themed spaces.
Tiered Wooden Cutting Board Shelf
Materials
3 wooden cutting boards (12 inches by 8 inches)
4 wooden dowels (1 inch in diameter, 10 inches long)
1 electric drill with a drill bit suitable for wood
12 wood screws (1.5 inches long)
Wood glue
Sandpaper (medium grit)
Wood stain or sealant (optional)
Directions
Sand the edges and surfaces of the cutting boards to remove any splinters or rough patches.
Measure and mark the corners of each cutting board where the dowels will be inserted. Ensure the holes align when the boards are stacked vertically.
Using the drill, create holes at the marked spots on each cutting board, making sure they are slightly smaller than the dowels for a snug fit.
Apply a small amount of wood glue to the ends of each dowel and insert them into the holes of the bottom cutting board. Secure with screws from the underside.
Stack the second cutting board on top, aligning the dowels with the drilled holes. Repeat the gluing and screwing process.
Place the final cutting board on top, align, and secure the dowels with glue and screws.
If desired, apply a wood stain or sealant to protect the shelf from moisture and enhance the wood's appearance.
Variations & Tips
For a more personalized touch, consider painting the cutting boards in a color that complements your bathroom's decor. Alternatively, use different shapes or sizes of cutting boards to create a custom silhouette. If you have limited space, reduce the number of tiers or use shorter dowels to create a more compact version. Adding hooks to the bottom cutting board can provide additional storage for hanging items like towels or loofahs.
