Woven Rope Storage Ottoman
Materials
3 identical plastic laundry baskets
50 feet of natural jute rope
Scissors
Hot glue gun with glue sticks
Strong duct tape
Cushion or foam pad for the top
Fabric cover for the cushion (optional)
Directions
Cut the rims off the tops of the three plastic laundry baskets using scissors, ensuring a smooth edge.
Stack the baskets one inside the other to create a sturdy base, securing them together with strong duct tape at multiple points to prevent shifting.
Starting from the bottom, hot glue the end of the jute rope to the base of the stacked baskets.
Begin wrapping the rope around the baskets, applying hot glue every few inches to keep it in place. Continue until the entire exterior is covered, ensuring even spacing and tight wrapping to create a cohesive look.
Once the wrapping is complete, secure the end of the rope with additional hot glue and trim any excess.
For the top, place the cushion or foam pad on the top opening of the baskets. If desired, cover the cushion with fabric for a polished look, securing it with hot glue or sewing it into place.
Allow the glue to dry completely before using the ottoman.
Variations & Tips
For a personalized touch, consider dyeing the rope in different colors before wrapping it around the baskets to match or contrast with existing room décor. Alternatively, use a thicker rope for a bolder, more robust appearance. For added comfort, increase the thickness of the top cushion, or use a memory foam insert for extra support. These variations maintain the core structure while allowing for creative customization to fit different interior styles.
