Transforming old car tires into a rustic faux-stone fire pit is an innovative way to recycle materials and enhance your backyard's aesthetic. This project offers an eco-friendly solution to repurpose tires, creating a durable and visually appealing centerpiece for outdoor gatherings. The heavy stone-mix concrete gives the tires a realistic stone appearance, perfect for those looking to add a touch of rustic charm to their outdoor space.
Place the completed fire pit in the center of your backyard or garden, surrounded by natural elements like stone paths or wooden benches. Coordinate with earthy tones and textured materials to complement the stone-like appearance of the fire pit. Consider adding outdoor lighting or lanterns to highlight the fire pit during evening gatherings, enhancing its warm and inviting ambiance.
Rustic Faux-Stone Tire Fire Pit

Materials
2 old rubber car tires
Heavy stone-mix concrete (approximately 4 bags)
Concrete sealant (1 can)
Trowel
Concrete mixer or large bucket for mixing
Protective gloves
Dust mask
Plastic sheeting or drop cloth
Leveling tool
Water source for mixing
Directions
1. Lay down plastic sheeting or a drop cloth in your workspace to protect the area from concrete spills.
2. Place one tire flat on the ground, ensuring it is on a level surface.
3. Mix the stone-mix concrete in a concrete mixer or large bucket, following the package instructions for the correct water-to-mix ratio.
4. Wearing protective gloves and a dust mask, use a trowel to apply the concrete mixture evenly over the exterior of the tire. Cover the entire surface, including the sides and top edges, ensuring a thick, even layer.
5. Allow the first layer of concrete to set slightly before adding a second layer for added texture and durability.
6. Once the first tire is covered and the concrete has begun to set, stack the second tire on top of the first.
7. Apply the concrete mixture to the second tire, following the same process as the first tire. Ensure the concrete covers the entire surface and the seams where the two tires meet.
8. Use a leveling tool to ensure the structure is straight and balanced.
9. After applying the concrete, allow it to cure completely for at least 48 hours.
10. Once the concrete is fully cured, apply a concrete sealant to protect the surface and enhance the stone-like appearance.
11. Allow the sealant to dry according to the manufacturer's instructions before using the fire pit.

Variations & Tips
For a more personalized touch, consider embedding small decorative stones or glass pieces into the outer layer of concrete before it fully sets. This can add color and texture to the fire pit's exterior, making it even more visually striking. Alternatively, you can experiment with different concrete stains to achieve various stone-like finishes, from slate gray to sandstone hues, allowing the fire pit to better match your outdoor decor.
