Transforming old venetian blinds into a woven basket is a sustainable and creative way to repurpose materials that would otherwise be discarded. This project is perfect for anyone looking to add a unique, handmade touch to their home decor while also being environmentally conscious. The basket is not only functional but adds a touch of modern rustic charm to any room.
Place the venetian blind woven basket in a living room as a stylish storage solution for magazines or throw blankets. Its neutral tones can complement a minimalist or Scandinavian interior design. Pair it with natural textures like wooden furniture or soft textiles, and consider placing it on a shelf or coffee table where its craftsmanship can be appreciated.
Venetian Blind Woven Basket

Materials
Old venetian blinds (approximately 20 slats, 1 inch wide each)
Scissors
Hot glue gun
Measuring tape
Clothes pegs or binder clips
Protective gloves
Directions
Measure and cut 20 slats from the old venetian blinds, each slat approximately 24 inches long.
Lay down 10 slats parallel to one another, spacing them about 1 inch apart. These will form the base of the basket.
Weave the remaining 10 slats horizontally across the base slats, alternating over and under each slat. Secure the corners with clothes pegs to hold the structure in place.
Once the base weave is complete, gently curve the woven slats upwards to start forming the basket's walls.
Continue weaving additional slats horizontally to build up the sides of the basket, securing each layer with hot glue for stability.
Finish the top edge of the basket by folding the topmost slats over and securing them with glue to create a smooth rim.

Variations & Tips
For a splash of color, consider painting the slats before weaving them. Use a matte spray paint in a color that complements your home decor. Alternatively, create a larger basket by using longer slats and adjusting the number of woven layers accordingly. You can also add a fabric lining to the inside of the basket for a softer look and additional utility.
