Concrete and River Rock Umbrella Stand

Materials
1 Cardboard concrete form tube (12 inches in diameter, 24 inches in height)
Smooth gray river rocks (approximately 50 pounds)
Quick-set concrete mix (80-pound bag)
Bucket for mixing concrete
Water
Shovel or mixing tool
Umbrella pole with a threaded base
Duct tape
Spray sealer (optional)
Directions
1. Begin by positioning the cardboard concrete form tube upright on your deck, ensuring it is stable and does not wobble.
2. Fill the bottom of the tube with a layer of smooth gray river rocks, approximately 3-4 inches deep.
3. In a separate bucket, mix the quick-set concrete with water according to the manufacturer's instructions. Stir until you achieve a smooth consistency.
4. Pour a layer of mixed concrete over the river rocks in the tube, covering them completely.
5. Continue adding alternating layers of river rocks and concrete until you fill the tube, leaving about 2 inches at the top.
6. Insert the umbrella pole into the center of the tube, ensuring it is straight and stable. Use duct tape to temporarily secure the pole in position while the concrete sets.
7. Allow the concrete to cure for at least 24 hours. Once fully set, remove the duct tape and check the stability of the umbrella pole.
8. (Optional) Apply a spray sealer over the top of the concrete and river rocks to protect against weathering.
9. Trim any excess cardboard from the top of the form tube for a clean finish.

Variations & Tips
For a personalized touch, consider using colored glass stones or marbles mixed with the river rocks to add visual interest. For increased durability, especially in climates with harsh weather, use a weather-resistant concrete mix. To customize further, paint the exterior of the cardboard tube with outdoor acrylic paint before filling it. For added mobility, attach hidden caster wheels to the bottom, allowing easy repositioning of the umbrella stand.
