This DIY project transforms simple wine corks into a stylish and functional 3-item wine cork trivet set, perfect for protecting your surfaces from hot dishes. By using repurposed wine corks, this project not only adds a rustic charm to your home but also promotes sustainability by upcycling materials that might otherwise be discarded.
The finished wine cork trivets should be styled in a kitchen or dining room setting. They can be placed on a wooden dining table or a marble kitchen counter to contrast their natural texture with smooth surfaces. The neutral tones of the corks pair well with both modern and rustic decor styles. Consider coordinating with earthy tones and natural wood elements for a cohesive look.
Wine Cork Trivet Trio
Materials
60 wine corks (20 per trivet)
3 wooden frames (8x8 inches)
Hot glue gun with glue sticks
Sandpaper (medium grit)
Ruler
Pencil
Directions
Measure and mark the center of each wooden frame using the ruler and pencil.
Arrange 20 wine corks inside one frame, alternating their orientation (horizontal and vertical) to create an interlocking pattern.
Once satisfied with the layout, use the hot glue gun to secure each cork to the frame, starting from the center and working outward.
Repeat the process for the remaining two frames.
Use sandpaper to smooth any rough edges of the corks that may protrude from the frame.
Allow the glue to dry completely before using the trivets.
Variations & Tips
For a personalized touch, consider staining the wooden frames in a color that complements your kitchen decor. You can also vary the pattern by cutting some corks in half for a more intricate design. If desired, add small felt pads to the underside of each trivet to prevent scratching surfaces.
