Balloon Mold Concrete Garden Orb Lights
Materials
3 balloons of varying sizes
1 small bag of quick-setting concrete mix (approximately 5 lbs)
1 roll of fabric strips (such as cheesecloth or gauze)
1 small bowl for mixing
1 LED tealight or small battery-operated light per orb
Directions
Inflate each balloon to the desired size for your garden orbs and tie them securely.
Lay a blue tarp on your work surface to protect it from spills.
Mix the quick-setting concrete with water in a small bowl following the package instructions until it reaches a thick paste-like consistency.
Cut fabric strips long enough to wrap around each balloon.
Dip a fabric strip into the concrete mixture, ensuring it is fully saturated.
Carefully drape the saturated strip over one of the balloons, smoothing it out to adhere well. Continue this process, overlapping strips until the balloon is evenly covered.
Allow the concrete to set for 24 hours or until fully hardened.
Once the concrete is dry, pop the balloon and gently remove it, leaving a hollow orb structure.
Insert an LED tealight or battery-operated light into the opening of each concrete orb to illuminate them.
Variations & Tips
To enhance the design, consider adding color to the concrete mixture with outdoor-safe pigments for a customized look that matches your garden decor. Alternatively, use different fabric patterns to introduce subtle textures or patterns on the orbs. For added functionality, incorporate solar-powered lights, ensuring eco-friendly and maintenance-free illumination. Experiment with different balloon shapes to create unique orb designs, such as elongated orbs or those with a wavy surface.
