Giant Cotton Swab Dandelions
Materials
150 white cotton swabs
4 large green styrofoam balls (approximately 8 inches in diameter)
Hot glue gun with glue sticks
4 wooden dowels (approximately 36 inches long)
Green spray paint
Wire cutters
Directions
Begin by spray painting the wooden dowels with green spray paint and allow them to dry completely.
Take one green styrofoam ball and use the hot glue gun to attach it securely to the top of one painted wooden dowel, ensuring it is centered.
Using wire cutters, trim each cotton swab to about half its length to expose more of the stick.
Insert each cotton swab into the styrofoam ball, spacing them evenly across the surface to mimic the seed head of a dandelion. Continue until the entire surface is covered, using approximately 150 swabs per ball.
Repeat the process for the remaining three styrofoam balls and dowels.
Once all the styrofoam balls are covered with swabs and attached to dowels, strategically place them in your garden by inserting the dowels into the ground.
Variations & Tips
For a more colorful twist, consider painting the cotton swabs in pastel colors before inserting them into the styrofoam balls for a playful, springtime look. Alternatively, use metallic spray paint on the cotton swabs to create a more sophisticated, modern aesthetic. To add nighttime appeal, thread small LED string lights between the swabs for a glowing effect after dusk. Each variation maintains the core structure of the giant dandelions, ensuring they remain a cohesive part of the garden decor.
