2 lengths of thick hemp rope, each 10 feet long
8 large eye bolts
8 nuts and washers to fit eye bolts
Drill with a 1/2-inch drill bit
Tape measure

Directions
1. Measure and mark four evenly spaced points along each weathered fence board for the eye bolts, approximately 18 inches apart.
2. Drill a 1/2-inch hole at each marked point on the boards.
3. Insert an eye bolt through each hole, securing it with a washer and nut on the back side of the board. Tighten using a wrench.
4. Lay the boards parallel to each other, spaced about 18 inches apart.
5. Thread the hemp rope through the eye bolts of each board, creating a ladder-like structure. Tie knots at each end of the rope to secure it in place.
6. Adjust the spacing between the boards to ensure they are parallel and evenly distributed, then tighten the knots further if necessary.
7. Trim any excess rope for a neat finish.
Variations & Tips
For a more modern look, substitute the weathered fence boards with smooth, stained wooden planks. Consider using a nautical rope for a coastal theme or a synthetic rope for increased durability against the elements. To customize, paint the boards in colors that complement your outdoor decor or stencil designs for added character. For added stability, consider securing the bottom of the ladder to the deck surface with brackets. Regularly check the rope and bolts for wear and tear to ensure safety and longevity.
