Concrete Loofah Reef Orbs
Materials
16 mesh bath loofahs
1 bag of white concrete mix (approximately 20 kg)
Large mixing bowl or bucket
Stirring stick or trowel
Disposable gloves
Drop cloth or plastic sheeting
Plastic wrap
Protective mask
Directions
1. Prepare your workspace by laying down a drop cloth or plastic sheeting to catch any spills or drips.
2. Put on your protective mask and gloves to prevent inhalation or skin contact with the concrete.
3. In a large mixing bowl or bucket, mix the white concrete according to the package instructions. Aim for a thick, paste-like consistency.
4. Take one mesh bath loofah and fully submerge it into the concrete mixture, ensuring it is thoroughly coated.
5. Remove the loofah and let excess concrete drip off momentarily. Then, set it aside on the plastic wrap to dry.
6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 with the remaining loofahs, ensuring each one is coated and placed separately to dry.
7. Allow all the loofahs to dry completely for at least 24-48 hours, or until the concrete is fully set and hardened.
8. Once dry, gently peel away any visible mesh if desired, leaving just the hardened concrete structure.
9. Arrange your completed orbs on your patio, either as standalone pieces or grouped together for effect.
Variations & Tips
Consider experimenting with different colors by adding concrete pigment to the mix for a more vibrant appearance. Alternatively, use varying sizes of mesh loofahs to create a dynamic display of differently sized orbs. For added durability and shine, apply a clear concrete sealant once the orbs are dry. This will not only protect the orbs from the elements but also give them a polished finish.
