DIY Crochet Beach Towel Bag from Vinyl Tablecloth

Materials
1 vinyl tablecloth from the dollar store (approximately 54 x 108 inches)
Thick cotton or jute rope (approximately 25-30 yards, 6-8mm thickness)
Crochet hook size 8mm
Scissors
Tapestry needle
Stitch markers (optional)
Directions
Lay the vinyl tablecloth flat and fold it in half widthwise, then fold it in half again lengthwise to create a quartered rectangle.
Using the scissors, carefully cut a small hole every 2 inches along the folded edges to create spaces for the rope.
Thread the rope through the first hole at the corner, leaving an 8-inch tail. Secure with a knot to prevent slipping.
Using the 8mm crochet hook, insert the hook into the first hole and pull up a loop of rope. Chain stitch (ch) to the next hole.
Continue this process, working single crochets (sc) into each hole along the edge, ensuring the rope is taut but not overly tight.
When you reach the last hole, tie off the rope with a knot, leaving another 8-inch tail. Use the tapestry needle to weave in any excess rope and secure the ends.
Repeat the process along the opposite side of the bag to create handles. For added strength, you can create a second row of single crochets along each side.
Once the handles are complete, fold the bag in half and use remaining rope to crochet both sides together, using slip stitches (sl st) to join the edges from bottom to top.
Weave in any loose rope ends and trim excess using scissors.

Variations & Tips
For a more personalized touch, consider using different types of rope such as nylon or hemp for varying textures and durability. You can also experiment with different tablecloth patterns to match your personal style or seasonal themes. If you prefer a softer bag, opt for a lighter vinyl or even a fabric tablecloth. Adjust the size by folding the tablecloth differently or adding more crochet rows to accommodate larger items. For a decorative twist, incorporate a different crochet stitch, such as a half double crochet (hdc) or a decorative border, to enhance the bag's aesthetic while maintaining its functional design.
