Crocheting is a unique and fulfilling craft that allows individuals to create functional and decorative items with just a few materials. This DIY project transforms a simple embroidery hoop and window screen into a chic and practical jewelry organizer. It solves the problem of tangled earrings and misplaced jewelry by providing an aesthetically pleasing and efficient storage solution. Plus, it's an eco-friendly way to repurpose thrift store finds into something beautiful and useful.
Hang the finished organizer on a wall near your dressing area or closet for easy access to your earrings. Choose embroidery threads in colors that complement your room decor, such as soft pastels for a calm, serene look or vibrant hues for a bold statement. The wooden embroidery hoop provides a natural texture that pairs well with both modern and rustic interiors. Consider hanging it alongside other wall decor for a cohesive look.
DIY Crochet Summer Jewelry Organizer with Embroidery Hoop and Window Screen
Materials
1 wooden embroidery hoop (8 or 10 inches in diameter)
Window screen material (slightly larger than the hoop)
Embroidery thread in desired color
Crochet hook size 1.75mm
Scissors
Craft glue
Directions
1. Begin by separating the embroidery hoop into two pieces. Lay the window screen over the inner hoop, ensuring it's taut and without wrinkles.
2. Place the outer hoop over the screen and tighten it until the screen is secure.
3. Trim any excess screen material around the edges of the hoop.
4. Thread your crochet hook with the embroidery thread. Starting at any point along the edge of the hoop, insert the hook through the screen to pull up a loop.
5. Chain 3 stitches to form the first loop, then create a slip stitch through the screen 1/4 inch away from the starting point to anchor it.
6. Continue around the hoop, creating looped chains of 3 stitches and anchoring each with a slip stitch through the screen, maintaining equal spacing between loops.
7. Once you’ve crocheted around the entire hoop, secure the end with a knot and trim any excess thread.
8. For added stability, apply a small amount of craft glue to the knots on the back of the screen.
Variations & Tips
For a different look, use metallic embroidery thread to add a touch of elegance to the organizer. Alternatively, use thicker yarn for a more pronounced loop pattern. Consider using a colored screen material for a unique effect. Adjust the hoop size to accommodate larger or smaller collections of earrings. Experiment with stitch variations, such as picots or shells, to create different textures and styles while maintaining the organizer's function.
